Three years ago, Melanie further solidified their credentials by obtaining their broker's license, enhancing their ability to navigate the complexities of the real estate market and provide top-tier advisory services to clients. Their commitment to continuous learning and professional growth led them to invest in their first property in Belize almost six years ago. Since then, they have been diligently studying and understanding the Belize real estate market, offering clients unique insights and opportunities in this burgeoning market.
While learning the real estate market in Belize, Melanie noticed a significant lack of tools available to realtors, including centralized listings, customer relationship management, reports, and marketing tools. Recognizing this gap, Melanie set out to fill the void by creating Habvia, a comprehensive website designed to help realtors spend more time selling and engaging with clients and less time on office paperwork. Habvia provides essential tools and resources that streamline real estate operations, enabling realtors to focus on what they do best—serving their clients and closing deals.
Philip Callahan serves as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Habvia, where his expertise in technology and design drive the platform’s innovative solutions. A graduate of Northern Illinois University with a degree in electrical engineering, Philip has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. His passion for technology led him to delve into the world of coding, specializing in CSS and user experience (UX) design.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Philip is an animal lover and considers himself a semi-pro volleyball player, though some might say his skills are still in 'beta testing.' Whether on the court or behind the keyboard, he’s always spiking toward perfection.". His technical knowledge, paired with his active lifestyle, brings a unique balance of focus and energy to Habvia’s development, ensuring a seamless and user-friendly experience for real estate professionals.
Mel Sutherland is the Director of PR and Sales for Habvia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Legal Studies and Global Affairs, combining a diverse educational background with hands-on experience in the sales industry. Having worked for several startups, including Zipcar and various online learning platforms, Mel brings her expertise in growing businesses to her role at Habvia.
Coming from a politically active family, Mel’s experience in public relations began early. In 2016, she joined her family’s company as a lobbyist and went on to become the Manager of Stakeholder Relations. She later transitioned to the role of Director of Public Affairs, working with clients in sectors ranging from the Canadian fireworks industry to city infrastructure, and managing the prestigious Canadian Club of Vancouver.
In her personal time, Mel is passionate about the outdoors, enjoying activities like scuba diving, swimming, and horseback riding. She is also a music enthusiast, frequently creating new playlists and DJing for friends and events.
